Calderdale Councillor has again agreed that there should be no increase in their allowances this year.
There has been no increase in Councillor Allowances for a number of years now, and a cut of 5% was agreed two years ago. At a time when the nation is struggling to get national debt under control and Council services are facing the squeeze it’s only right that Councillor allowances are once again frozen.
Cllr Janet Battye our Lib Dem group leader said:
“We understand the pressures on Council Tax payers and we also want to support local services and jobs. Any increase in councillor allowances would have to be paid for either from an increase in the Council Tax or from further reductions in spending on council services. Neither of these options is acceptable”
